Non Exercise Activity Thermogenesis



"To enjoy the glow of good health, you must exercise." Apart from being a famous quote this is also a very well known fact. Regular exercise, be it aerobic or anaerobic is what helps us to stay fit as a fiddle 😊
But did you know that there is an equally important way of maintaining good health along with healthy diet and regular sleep pattern?
Welcome to the world of Non Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (NEAT). What sounds like a complicated scientific funda is simply the process of ensuring that your body moves around most of the day instead of being static. Lets see how this can be incorporated in your daily sedentary life.

  1. Take the stairs instead of using the elevator wherever you can.
  2. Try walking down to nearby places instead of depending on transport (leave a few minutes earlier to avoid the excuse of getting late. Also during daytime don't forget your sunscreen lotion)
  3. At work, push away the comfy revolving office chair for a while and try to complete those pesky emails standing at your place.
  4. Take movement breaks in between in which you rotate your head,stretch out your hands and legs, tap your feet gently and take a couple of deep breathes. Pull in and push out your tummy (trust me no one will notice)
  5. If possible, try walking around when you are on a call (this is mostly possible at home)
  6. For home makers, each day try to do that one extra task in cleaning up that you would do if you were expecting guests over. Apart from your house looking great,you've burnt some extra calories too!
  7. Don't feel like exercising over the weekend? Just play your favorite music and dance till you drop! Great mood lifter too 😊
